BEIJING, January 23 (Xinhua) — On Wednesday, the third New Year's Goods Festival opened in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, following the arrival of a freight train loaded with grain, oil, honey, and other Kazakh agricultural products from Kazakhstan on the international China-Europe freight route in Xi'an, Northwest China. The event is dedicated to the upcoming Spring Festival (Chinese New Year, the traditional Chinese Lunar New Year), according to the official website of the Zhongguo Xinwenshe News Agency.
Among the New Year's products on display at this festival were new food products such as dry noodles made in Kazakhstan, said Liu Dongmeng, secretary of the party committee of Xi'an Aiju Grain and Oil Industrial Group, adding that the train, which departed from Aiju's overseas production park in North Kazakhstan, entered Aiju's factory in Xi'an via a special railway line after arriving at Xi'an International Port Station using a door-to-door system.
At the festival, visitors are offered not only signature products such as beer and snacks from Kazakhstan and red wine from Georgia, but also delicacies with local flavor, such as authentic Shaanxi desserts and pepper oil.
This year's festival will run until February 14. In addition to traditional products from Belt and Road Initiative countries and renowned Shaanxi enterprises, a specially created "Chinese New Year" cultural interaction zone and an area where visitors can prepare traditional Shaanxi dishes themselves have been created.
Capitalizing on the speed and convenience of China-Europe trains, special trains carrying New Year's goods, serviced by Xi'an International Port, have been operating for many years. Not only do they add variety to the delicacies on holiday tables, but they also help businesses reduce costs and improve efficiency, and facilitate closer and more effective trade and economic exchanges between Shaanxi Province and Central Asia.
