Bishkek, January 22 (Xinhua) — The successes achieved by China and the Central Asian countries in 2025 in trade and economic cooperation confirm the high sustainability of this cooperation and its significant internal potential for development. This was stated by Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping in an opinion piece published Wednesday on the website of the Kyrgyz National News Agency, Kabar.
According to Chinese statistics, trade turnover between China and Central Asian countries reached USD 106.3 billion in 2025, an increase of 12 percent year-on-year and surpassing USD 100 billion for the first time, with positive dynamics continuing for the fifth consecutive year.
According to Liu Jiangping, under the strategic leadership of the heads of state, cooperation mechanisms in the China-Central Asia format are functioning stably, and trade and economic cooperation is consistently reaching new levels.
"For the first time, China has become the largest trading partner of all Central Asian countries, which convincingly demonstrates the high stability of trade and economic cooperation and its significant internal development potential," the diplomat emphasized.
As she noted, cooperation mechanisms between the two sides continue to be systematically improved. During the second China-Central Asia Summit, the parties signed a number of key documents, including an Action Plan to Strengthen Trade and Economic Cooperation and a Memorandum of Understanding to Deepen Cooperation in Unimpeded Trade.
The China-Central Asia Unfettered Trade Cooperation Platform officially launched in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. "Silk Road e-Commerce" is an effective tool for facilitating unfettered trade, with cooperation mechanisms at border crossing points being consistently optimized, warehouse infrastructure construction being actively promoted, and cooperation in cross-border payments is being actively promoted, facilitating a more effective alignment of market demand between China and Central Asian countries.
As the ambassador emphasized, the trade structure is consistently improving. The share of mechanical engineering, electronics, and high-tech products has grown significantly, the share of the "new three" (electric vehicles, lithium batteries, and solar panels) is also steadily expanding, and the environmental friendliness of exported goods is steadily improving.
Along with traditional resource supplies, shipments of chemicals, metallurgical products, and agricultural goods are increasing. "More than 4,000 companies from Central Asian countries have gained access to the Chinese market, with over 100 types of agricultural and food products officially permitted, and more and more high-quality goods from the region are finding their way onto the tables of Chinese consumers," the article notes.
Liu Jiangping noted that investment, trade and economic cooperation between the countries is developing in a coordinated manner.
According to her, high-quality cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative between China and the Central Asian countries continues to deepen. Chinese investment and technology are providing a powerful impetus to the economic recovery and sustainable development of Central Asian countries. Implementation of the strategic China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, as well as other projects in transport connectivity, equipment manufacturing, green mining, and modern agriculture, is accelerating.
"These projects effectively contribute to the stability of regional production and supply chains, industrial modernization, and economic growth in Central Asian countries, while simultaneously stimulating an increase in mutual trade volumes," the diplomat noted.
Liu Jiangping noted that trade between China and Kyrgyzstan is demonstrating particularly strong momentum. Kyrgyzstan is currently China's second-largest trading partner in Central Asia, with bilateral trade accounting for approximately a quarter of China's total trade turnover with Central Asian countries.
"In 2025, trade between China and Kyrgyzstan reached $27.2 billion, increasing by 20 percent year-on-year and setting another historical record. This growth rate was the highest in the Central Asian region. Imports from Kyrgyzstan increased by 86 percent, while the trade balance between the two countries continues to improve," the author of the article clarified.
As Liu Jiangping added, China is ready to move forward with Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries, taking advantage of favorable development trends, strengthening the alignment of China's 15th Five-Year Plan with the national development strategies of the region's countries, consistently fostering a "China-Central Asian spirit," and making efforts to implement the practical outcomes of the China-Central Asia summits.
“This will allow us to comprehensively improve the quality and effectiveness of trade and economic cooperation and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for China and Central Asia,” concluded the head of the Chinese diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan. –0–
