Moscow, January 22 (Xinhua) — The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation has detained a Russian citizen in the Kemerovo Region, allegedly involved in planning railway sabotage on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence agencies. This was reported on Thursday by RIA Novosti, citing the FSB Public Relations Center.
It was established that a Russian citizen born in 1986 resided in Poland from March 2022 to July 2025, where he was recruited and sent to the Kemerovo Region to conduct intelligence and subversive activities. The FSB added that after committing the acts of sabotage, he planned, with the assistance of Ukrainian intelligence services, to travel to the European Union to seek political asylum.
The detainee used the Signal messenger to transmit information about transportation infrastructure in the Kemerovo region. A criminal case has been opened for preparing an act of sabotage.
