Astana, January 22 (Xinhua) — Sunflower oil production and exports in Kazakhstan continue to show steady growth, reflecting the structural reorientation of the country's oil and fat industry and the strengthening of its export potential, Kazinform reported on Thursday.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, vegetable oil production in Kazakhstan reached 807,400 tons in January–November 2025, an 18.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. Sunflower oil production increased by 19.2 percent to 683,700 tons, accounting for virtually all of the industry's growth.
Over the long term, vegetable oil production increased from 464,100 tons in 2020 to 753,000 tons in 2024, while sunflower oil production nearly doubled during this period. Its share of total vegetable oil production increased from 69.6 percent in 2020 to 85.7 percent in January-November 2025, reaching its highest level over the entire observation period.
Vegetable oil exports from Kazakhstan also increased significantly. While shipments in 2020 totaled 220,900 tons, by 2024 they had increased to 582,100 tons. From January to November 2025, exports reached 690,900 tons, a 34.6 percent increase from the previous year.
Sunflower oil traditionally accounts for the bulk of exports. Its shipments increased from 127,700 tons in 2020 to 495,900 tons in 2024, and reached 591,000 tons in January-November 2025, an increase of 43% year-on-year. Sunflower oil's share of total vegetable oil exports during this period amounted to 85.5%.
Uzbekistan remains the largest importer of Kazakhstani sunflower oil, accounting for 52.4 percent of exports in January-November 2025. China ranks second, and Tajikistan third. Together, these three countries account for approximately 92 percent of Kazakhstan's total sunflower oil exports.
