Moscow, January 22 /Xinhua/ — Russia's $1 billion contribution to the Gaza Peace Council will go toward the reconstruction of Palestine, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov announced.

“As President Putin said yesterday, this billion, through the Peace Council, should go towards humanitarian purposes for Palestine, for the restoration of Palestine,” said D. Peskov.

According to him, the allocation of funds to the "Peace Council" will require the unblocking of frozen Russian assets in the United States; the legal details still need to be clarified.

On Wednesday, at a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is ready to transfer the required contribution to the "Peace Council" from assets frozen under the previous US administration.
