Specialists from Rosneft's Ufa Research Institute have developed a methodology that allows for the highly accurate assessment of the potential of deposits with low-permeability clay reservoirs.

The essence of the innovation lies in a comprehensive analysis of the electrochemical and electrophysical properties of rocks. The researchers took into account the phenomenon of "capillary superconductivity," which is especially important when working with rocks with high clay content, small pores, and low permeability.

Traditional saturation determination methods in low-permeability clay reservoirs do not always provide accurate results, leading to potentially oil-saturated formations being mistakenly interpreted as water-saturated. This new approach significantly reduces the incidence of such errors.

The method has proven its effectiveness in reinterpreting geophysical well data at fields in Western Siberia. Implementation of this innovation will increase hydrocarbon production and ensure more accurate reserve assessments at mature fields.
