UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) — The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday condemned the terrorist attack that took place in the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday.

In a press statement, Security Council members condemned in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attack, for which the Islamic State affiliate, Wilayat Khorasan, claimed responsibility.

An attack on a restaurant in Kabul's commercial district killed six Afghans and one Chinese citizen, and wounded several others, including a child.

The Security Council members expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Afghanistan and China, and wished a speedy and full recovery to the injured.

They stressed the need to bring to justice those who carried out, organised, financed and supported this reprehensible terrorist attack, urging all States to actively cooperate with the relevant authorities in this matter.

Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is one of the most serious threats to peace and security in Afghanistan, as well as globally, the Security Council members stated. They reiterated the need for all states to combat, by all means necessary, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
