During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China has been steadily pursuing the path of environmental priority and green development, promoting comprehensive acceleration of green and low-carbon transformation of economic and social development.
Transforming the energy structure is a crucial element in advancing green and low-carbon development. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China built the world's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy system. At the same time, energy efficiency has significantly improved: in 2024, energy consumption per unit of GDP decreased by 11.6% compared to the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period. A modern energy system characterized by cleanliness, low emissions, security, and high efficiency is currently being comprehensively established.
China is actively promoting the transformation and modernization of its industrial structure, developing green and low-carbon industries. Currently, green and low-carbon industries in China amount to approximately 11 trillion yuan, and there remains significant potential for future growth.
Through efforts to protect blue skies, clear waters, and clean land, China has achieved outstanding results in combating environmental pollution. This represents a successful practice for a major developing country to effectively protect the environment while achieving rapid socio-economic development.
Effective mechanisms serve as an important guarantee for green development. China is ensuring the stable operation of the national carbon trading market. Water and forest management systems are being comprehensively improved, and innovative incentive models such as carbon inclusiveness and "green credits" are being actively implemented. Taking into account local conditions, regions are also creating mechanisms to realize the environmental value of locally specific products, accumulating valuable experience for national green transformation.
The concept of green and low-carbon development has gained widespread acceptance in China. Major international exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the China International Consumer Goods Fair are actively promoting the concept of "zero carbon emissions and zero plastic." A beautiful China is being built through joint efforts, and sharing the fruits of development is becoming an increasingly common practice in society. New energy vehicles and energy-efficient home appliances have become popular products in the marketplace.
The 15th Five-Year Plan period is a key stage for the fundamental implementation of socialist modernization. China will accelerate the construction of a new energy system, actively and steadily advance the achievement of carbon emissions peaking and carbon neutrality, continuously deepen environmental protection efforts, and continuously pursue South-South cooperation in combating climate change. All of this will not only strengthen the driving forces for China's green development but also contribute to China's contribution to global sustainable development.
