Minsk, January 21 (Xinhua) – Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov expressed confidence in warming relations with his European neighbors. The Belta news agency published the statement on Wednesday.

"I'm most hopeful that cooperation will be restored most quickly with Poland. This is a country that sees itself as a true regional leader and is doing everything to achieve this—pursuing a pragmatic policy in which it cannot afford any blind spots," stated M. Ryzhenkov, adding that he expects cooperation to be built in the interests of people on both sides of the Belarusian-Polish border, and a return to trade, economic, and people-to-people interaction.

Meanwhile, the Belarusian Foreign Minister has a different view on Lithuania. "This is a country where politicians, unfortunately, don't think and don't intend to think about their people. They owe their positions not to the Lithuanian people, but to the regional committees in Brussels or Washington. And they'll do whatever they're told. This makes them unpredictable," explained M. Ryzhenkov.

In his opinion, when the window of opportunity for resuming cooperation with Lithuania opens, “we will have to think several times about how far to open this window and whether it should be opened at all.” –0–
