WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said late Monday he might impose a 200 percent tariff on French wines and champagne.
Responding to a reporter's question about French President Emmanuel Macron's refusal to join his proposed "Peace Council" initiative, Trump said: "I will impose a 200 percent tariff on his wine and champagne, and he will join, but he is not obligated to join."
Citing anonymous sources close to E. Macron, media outlets reported that France intends to reject D. Trump's invitation, as the council's charter appears to go beyond overseeing the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. –0–
