BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — In 2025, the China-SCO Regional Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "China-SCO Demonstration Zone"), located in the port city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province, achieved 20 significant achievements in institutional innovation, which served as a strong impetus for enhancing interregional cooperation among the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries.
According to the news portal chinanews.com.cn, a press conference was held on Monday to summarize the results of reforms and innovations in the specified zone in 2025, at which it was reported that the achieved progress affected four main aspects: the construction of a smooth logistics corridor, the updating of trade development models, strengthening the stimulating role of technological innovation, and the deepening of exchanges in the commercial, tourism, and humanitarian spheres.
Among the achievements, the Qingdao hub of the China-Europe State Train Dispatch Center, established in the China-SCO Demonstration Zone in 2025, was particularly highlighted. With the establishment of this hub, the demonstration zone cemented its status as a maritime and rail multimodal logistics artery. Currently, 32 freight routes to Central Asia and Europe operate regularly from the zone, with a total of over 5,400 freight trains traveling in both directions.
Furthermore, by the end of 2025, the China-SCO Demonstration Zone had facilitated the placement of over 200 products from SCO countries on online demonstration and sales platforms. Furthermore, the China/Shandong/Novosibirsk Region Business and Information Center of the Russian Federation was established in Qingdao, part of the demonstration zone's efforts to explore new approaches to strengthening trade and economic cooperation with key provinces and regions of SCO countries.
In 2026, the demonstration zone is ready to continue its efforts to achieve new reform and innovation results, transforming itself into a pilot zone for institutional innovation to strengthen trade and investment ties between the relevant regions of the SCO countries. This will focus on areas such as cross-border digital data flows, new trade forms, and enhancing the comprehensive service capacity for export enterprises, noted Han Xingang, Deputy Director of the Reform Office of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee.
It's worth noting that the China-SCO Demonstration Zone is the only state-level platform in the country focused on promoting interregional trade and economic cooperation between SCO countries. Moreover, it also functions as a showcase for SCO cultural elements and a platform for implementing major openness programs, serving as a public good for international cooperation, created through the joint efforts of many parties and available for shared use globally.
