BEIJING, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) — China has repeatedly stated its position on the Greenland issue and called on the United States to stop using the so-called "China threat" as an excuse to pursue its own interests, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Monday.
As the Chinese diplomat stated at a regular departmental press conference, international law, based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, is the foundation of the existing international order and must be strictly observed.
Guo Jiakun made the statement in response to a question about US President Donald Trump's recent announcement that the US would impose 10 percent tariffs on all goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland starting February 1, 2026, over the Greenland issue, and would raise the tariffs to 25 percent starting June 1 if no agreement is reached on the US purchase of the island. -0-
