ZHENGZHOU, July 25 (Xinhua) — The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Media and Think Tank Summit opened in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, on Friday, with the theme of "Spreading the Shanghai Spirit, Building a Beautiful Home Together."

The participants of the event discussed in depth how the media and think tanks can play a more worthy role in strengthening traditional friendship and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation within the SCO, as well as in building a closer community of shared destiny of the SCO.

"The Shanghai Spirit" is not an abstraction, but a living philosophy of our interaction. These principles are becoming even more relevant in the era of global changes and rapid transformation of the information environment," said Andrei Kondrashov, CEO of the Russian news agency TASS.

A. Kondrashov noted that the activities of the media and analytical centers today are taking place in the context of profound changes in the global landscape and transformation of the information environment. In these conditions, their interaction becomes imperative not only for effective current work, but also for ensuring a safe future.

According to him, cooperation between the media and analytical centers within the SCO is a strategic partnership aimed at forming an honest, balanced and multipolar information space of Eurasia and the world. This is the path to mutual understanding, trust and rapprochement of peoples.

Director of the Kyrgyz National Information Agency /KNIA/ “Kabar” Mederbek Shermetaliev emphasized that in the context of global challenges, the role of the SCO in ensuring sustainable development is becoming increasingly important.

"The media plays a vital role in the formation of the SCO as a space of broad interaction based on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual benefit. Our joint work in the information sphere has broad prospects," he said, noting that the Kabar News Agency is open to cooperation in all areas with colleagues from the SCO countries.

“The media and analytical centers act as “stimulants” of humanitarian exchange and “catalysts” of mutual learning of civilizations in the SCO space. And cooperation between the media and experts serves as a kind of bridge between society and states, strengthening mutual trust – the cornerstone of the “Shanghai spirit,” said Firdavs Odinazoda, First Vice-Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

He added that mutual understanding between peoples and support for integration initiatives largely depend on how professionally and thoughtfully journalists and experts from SCO countries cover the organization’s activities.

“Strengthening cooperation between analytical centers of China and Russia, first of all, contributes to mutual understanding between the peoples, scientists and governments of our countries,” said Alexander Lukin, scientific director of the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

“In addition, such cooperation helps to strengthen and improve the quality of analytics and scientific information in both countries, promoting it both within their countries and in the world as a whole,” he added.

“We expect that the SCO Media and Analytical Centers Summit will become a platform for a meaningful exchange of opinions, joint initiatives and the formation of new consensus,” said Eldor Tulyakov, Executive Director of the Development Strategy Center of Uzbekistan.

Let us recall that the event, which is taking place from July 23 to 27, was attended by about 400 representatives of about 200 leading media outlets, well-known analytical centers and government agencies from 26 SCO countries, as well as international and regional organizations such as the UN, the SCO Secretariat, etc.

The event was jointly organized by Xinhua News Agency, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Henan Provincial People's Government. -0-
