BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) — A cultural and tourism exchange event between China and Russia kicked off in Aihui District of Heihe City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, on Friday.

As reported by Partners magazine, the event, titled "Chinese New Year in Love," attracted more than 50 Russian and Chinese tourists who wanted to delve deeper into traditional Chinese culture and celebrate 2026 together "the Chinese way."

Tourists from both countries, led by intangible cultural heritage experts, tried their hand at paper cutting (jianzhi) and archery, and also enjoyed authentic local delicacies, gaining a deeper understanding of the unique charm of Manchu culture.

Anastasia, a Russian tourist who came to study Chinese culture, said she would take home a paper cutout made by her daughter.

Russian tourist Ivan shared his joy at celebrating the New Year in China and participating in a variety of traditional Chinese events.

Chinese and Russian friends created shared memories of Chinese New Year by writing the character "fu" (happiness), creating fish skin paintings and lanterns, making candied fruit on a stick, and making dumplings.

This cultural tourism exchange not only allowed Russian friends to become acquainted with the profound heritage and unique charm of traditional Chinese holidays, but also became a vibrant and warm “New Year’s picture of friendship” in the sphere of Chinese-Russian humanitarian exchanges.
