BEIJING, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) — Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, called on Friday for consistent progress in eliminating meaningless formalism and reducing the burden on low-level civil servants.
Cai Qi, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made the call at a meeting of the special central mechanism for relevant work.
The meeting emphasized the need to establish and adhere to a sound performance evaluation methodology, as well as to do more to promote long-term development.
The meeting participants also called for eliminating hidden burdens at the grassroots level, getting rid of excessive documentation and meetings, improving mechanisms for preventing and managing “image” and “vanity” projects, and eradicating problems of formalism in the planning process.
The meeting noted that central and state departments should continue to play a model and guiding role, and that party committees at local and all levels should conscientiously fulfill their basic responsibilities.
