Moscow, January 16 (Xinhua) – Moscow appreciates Washington's efforts to peacefully resolve the situation in Ukraine; they are in line with Russian interests, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

"The United States' efforts to bring the Ukrainian settlement to a political and diplomatic level are in our interests. We appreciate Washington's efforts in this regard," he said.

According to the press secretary, a settlement around Ukraine is impossible without a broad discussion of European security. "For peace to be established, joint efforts are needed on opposing tracks," said D. Peskov. "This is precisely the point: discussing the issue of a Ukrainian settlement without discussing European security in a broader context is also impossible. One way or another, security guarantees will touch on this issue. And for this, of course, dialogue is necessary," the Kremlin spokesman noted.

According to D. Peskov, Russia is interested in hosting a new visit by American negotiators on Ukraine—US Presidential Envoy Steven Witkoff and entrepreneur Jared Kushner. However, the exact dates have not yet been determined.

A Kremlin spokesman also called the situation around Greenland extraordinary. "We, like the rest of the world, are certainly monitoring the situation around Greenland. We are noting a very controversial situation. We proceed from the premise that Greenland is the territory of the Kingdom of Denmark," he said, commenting on US plans to establish control over the island. "The situation is unusual, I would even say extraordinary from the standpoint of international law," added D. Peskov. –0– Oleg
