URUMQI, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) — Cash worth 2 million yuan (approximately $285,000) was flown from Tianshan International Airport in Urumqi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday. This marks the first successful cross-border cash transfer at Xinjiang's air checkpoint.
The transported funds, declared by the Xinjiang branch of the Bank of China, are intended to meet the needs of neighboring countries and regions for international financial services.
To ensure the safety and efficiency of cash transportation, the airport's customs service provided assistance with customs procedures and opened a special green corridor, significantly speeding up the customs clearance process.
Deputy Head of Customs at Tianshan Airport Shi Cheng stated that interdepartmental cooperation will be further strengthened to improve the efficiency of customs clearance in order to promote high-quality cooperation between Xinjiang and neighboring countries and regions in the trade, economic and financial spheres. -0-
