Moscow, January 15 (Xinhua) – Russia is expelling British diplomat Gareth Samuel Davis in connection with his involvement with the British intelligence services, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.
"On January 15, the British Chargé d'Affaires in Russia, D. Dolakia, was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She lodged a strong protest in connection with information received by Russian competent authorities regarding the affiliation of one of the embassy's diplomatic staff with the British intelligence services," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has named the officer. "During counterintelligence operations, the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation identified an undeclared British intelligence officer, Gareth Samuel Davis, born August 8, 1980, who was sent to Russia under the cover of his position as Second Secretary of the Administrative and Economic Department of the British Embassy in Moscow," the FSB's Public Relations Center (PRC) said in a statement.
"On the basis of these grounds, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in consultation with the relevant agencies, has decided to revoke Gareth Samuel Davis's accreditation. The Briton has been ordered to leave Russia within two weeks," the Public Relations Center stated.
