Beijing, January 14 (Xinhua) — China always shares the fruits of innovation with the rest of the world and strives to bring the benefits of science and technology to all of humanity, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a daily ministry briefing on Wednesday.
The diplomat made this statement in response to a question about how China sees its role in global scientific and technological innovation.
According to media reports, last year China entered the top ten of the Global Innovation Index for the first time, and this year the country has already achieved a number of new innovative achievements. However, it is noted that rapid advances in science and technology are widening the technological gap facing developing countries.
Mao Ning noted that the past year was marked by the deep integration of technology and industrial sectors in China, as well as numerous innovative achievements that emerged one after another. According to her, innovation will become the key driver of China's high-quality development in the near future.
The official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the fact that in the proposals of the CPC Central Committee for the development of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), the word “innovation” is mentioned 61 times, while scientific and technological innovation is placed at the center of overall national development.
As Mao Ning emphasized, China, while stimulating its own development through innovation, consistently shares its innovative results with the rest of the world and strives to provide the benefits of science and technology to all of humanity.
Recalling that China's large-scale scientific projects, such as the FAST (500-meter aperture spherical radio telescope), are open to the world, the diplomat pointed out that China is committed to international cooperation in deep-sea and deep-space exploration, and that Chinese livelihood technologies, including hybrid rice, aquaculture, and juncao grass, are helping developing countries alleviate poverty.
“We also launched the Initiative on Global AI Governance, which aims to create an open, fair, and non-discriminatory international environment for innovation,” noted the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
China will continue to pursue a spirit of openness and cooperation, address technological barriers, narrow the scientific and technological gap, and promote the sharing of the fruits of innovation for the benefit of the development and prosperity of the entire world, Mao Ning concluded.
