BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese health authorities have completed another round of mass procurement of medical supplies, a measure aimed at reducing costs for hospitals and patients across the country.

On Wednesday, the National Medical Supply Administration of China announced the results of the sixth national bulk procurement program for high-value medical supplies. It covered 12 types of medical supplies, including drug-coated cylinders and urological intervention devices.

A total of 440 products from 202 manufacturers were selected for procurement. Government officials reported that large suppliers relied upon by hospitals were successfully involved in the bulk procurement scheme, ensuring a diverse and stable supply of the selected medical products.

Today, the state mass procurement program has expanded to cover 142 types of medical consumables across nine main categories, covering clinical areas such as cardiology, orthopedics, peripheral vascular surgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, and urology.

Patients are expected to have access to the final batch of lower-cost devices around May 2026. China regularly uses centralized procurement to lower prices on medical equipment and drugs, part of a broader effort to improve access to healthcare. -0-
