New Delhi, January 12 (Xinhua) — The death toll from a fire that broke out early Monday morning in the mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India is expected to rise to 10, a local official said by telephone.

The three-story residential building, mostly made of wood, caught fire and then collapsed, trapping all 10 people inside, belonging to two different families from Nepal.

The victims were sleeping when the fire started. Among the dead were five women and one child.

The fire broke out in Arki area of Solan district, about 38 km west of Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. –0–
