Dar es Salaam, January 10 (Xinhua) — Tanzania and China have committed to aligning their development strategies to accelerate shared growth, according to a joint press communiqué released on Saturday.
The document was released following talks between the foreign ministers of Tanzania and China in Dar es Salaam. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited Tanzania from January 9 to 10, during which he met with his counterpart, Mahmud Thabit Kombo.
The ministers highly valued the traditional friendship between China and Tanzania, which is based on trust and mutual respect, the communique said.
They noted with satisfaction the fruitful achievements of China-Tanzania relations and friendly cooperation over the past six decades and pledged to practically implement the agreements reached by the heads of state to further elevate the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership to new heights.
China reiterated its full confidence in the ability of Tanzania's leadership and institutions to independently manage its domestic affairs, the communiqué stated. Tanzania, for its part, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the one-China principle and reiterated its consistent position of recognizing that there is only one China in the world and respecting China's national unity and territorial integrity, emphasizing that any form of secession is unacceptable.
The two countries committed to aligning their development strategies, agreed to further expand bilateral investment and trade, and reaffirmed their commitment to further developing a fair and favorable business environment on both sides.
According to the communiqué, the two sides agreed to jointly hold events to mark the China-Africa Year of Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges, which has been declared to be in 2026, and to strengthen cooperation in areas such as culture, tourism, education, healthcare, sports, youth, as well as think tanks and media, to strengthen public support for China-Tanzania friendship.
As noted in the communiqué, both sides also welcomed the successful launch of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) upgrade project, expressed their readiness to support its implementation, and announced that they are exploring the possibility of organizing a high-level meeting on the development of a prosperity belt along TAZARA in the near future. –0–
