St. Petersburg, January 9 (Xinhua) — The crews of Tu-142MK aircraft of the Russian Northern Fleet were included in the Book of Records of the Russian Armed Forces for the first-ever in-flight refueling near the North Pole. This was reported by RIA Novosti on Friday, citing the Northern Fleet press service.

The report notes that the mission was carried out as part of a naval exercise. The Tu-142MK aircraft crews carried out a special flight to a remote Arctic region, during which they refueled for the first time in the airspace of the Arctic Ocean and the North Pole. The total flight time was approximately 30 hours.

The press service clarified that the completion of this mission confirmed the aviation capabilities of the Tu-142MK aircraft, as well as the possibility of effectively using long-range aviation anywhere in the Arctic region to solve anti-submarine defense tasks and monitor the surface situation. –0–
