BEIJING, January 8 (Xinhua) — By the end of 2025, Chinese police nationwide had solved 258,000 cases of telecommunications and internet fraud. Payments and transactions involving funds involved in related criminal cases totaling over 21.7 million yuan (approximately $3.1 million) were urgently stopped, Ministry of Public Security spokesperson Zhang Ming announced on Thursday.
Zhang Ming added that last year, Chinese police caught 542 sponsors, ringleaders and key members linked to fraud syndicates.
Zhang Ming also noted that Chinese police have stepped up international cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Myanmar, Thailand, and Cambodia to combat similar crimes. More than 7,600 Chinese citizens suspected of involvement in telecommunications fraud have been repatriated from Myanmar's Myawaddy district. -0-
