PARIS, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) — Leaders of the "coalition of the willing" adopted a declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday, agreeing that any future peace settlement must include credible and binding security guarantees for the country.
In a joint declaration, a coalition of approximately 30 Western and European countries expressed their commitment to establishing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and welcomed the progress made in recent negotiations between the United States, Ukraine, and European partners.
The leaders of the "coalition of the willing" emphasized that Ukraine's ability to defend itself is crucial to its future security and broader Euro-Atlantic stability. They also reaffirmed that protecting Ukraine's sovereignty and long-term security will be an integral part of any peace agreement.
According to the document, the coalition is prepared to establish a system of politically and legally binding guarantees once the ceasefire comes into effect. These measures will include participation in a US-led ceasefire monitoring mechanism, military support for Ukraine, and long-term defense cooperation.
