Beijing, January 6 (Xinhua) — The International Forum "Dialogue of World Mayors" is being held in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province in northeast China, also known as the "Ice City," from January 6 to 8, Heilongjiang Broadcasting reported on Tuesday.
According to the report, the event will bring together representatives from cities around the world, who will exchange views on the sustainable development of the ice and snow economy and avenues for global cooperation, innovations in urban management, and international cooperation in emergency situations.
The goal of the forum is to develop common approaches and outline concrete steps for cross-border and intersectoral partnerships.
The grand opening took place at the Snow Lilac Torch Tower Plaza in Harbin's Great World of Ice and Snow, the world's largest ice and snow theme park. Mayors from several countries participated in the "International Cities Share the Joy of Ice and Snow" ceremony, simultaneously turning on the illuminations of the Torch Tower, the signature structure of the 2025 Asian Winter Games. Its glow, in unison with the glitter of the park's ice sculptures, aligns with the festival's theme: "Ice and Snow Unite the World, Cooperation Creates the Future."
Guests from around the world will be able to participate in the exciting event "Encounter with Ice and Snow: Creating Sculptures Around the World." As part of the program, guests will immerse themselves in the art of ice sculpture: in a special "Ice Workshop Zone," they will carve the emblem of the World Mayors Dialogue Forum into blocks of ice.
The "Harbin Experience" tour includes visits to Central Street, the Aerospace Museum of Harbin Institute of Technology, and the Ice and Snow Carnival on the Songhua River. In the recreation area, delegates will be able to experience the locals' love of life as they brave the freezing temperatures, ice skate, play binga, and go winter swimming.
The cultural program will culminate with a performance of the symphonic ode “Poem of Civilization” by the Harbin Symphony Orchestra, China’s first professional symphony orchestra.
In parallel with the forum, the 2026 International Snow and Ice Economy Fair is being held in Harbin, dedicated to the practical implementation of partnership agreements in the fields of culture and business. -0-
