TOKYO, January 6 (Xinhua) — Several people were injured by a 6.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Shimane Prefecture in western Japan on Tuesday, local media reported.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake struck at 10:18 a.m. local time in eastern Shimane Prefecture. The hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 km.

The epicenter of the tremors was located at 35.3 degrees north latitude and 133.2 degrees east longitude. According to the JMA, two aftershocks, measuring 5.1 and 5.4, occurred in the same area at approximately 10:28 and 10:37 local time, respectively.

Four people in the city of Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, were taken to the hospital due to falls and other injuries sustained during the earthquake. Roofs of several houses in the city were damaged, NHK reported.
