BEIJING, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) — Three key indicators of Urumqi Tianshan International Airport in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have reached new historical highs by the end of 2025, the Xinjiang Daily newspaper reported, citing a source in the airport administration.

According to data, for the entire year of 2025, the airport's passenger turnover amounted to almost 29.18 million person-times, an increase of 5.09 percent year-on-year, while the volume of cargo and mail transportation amounted to 331,800 tons, which is 40.65 percent more than the figure recorded at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, this airport also supported 194,900 departures and landings, which is 3.27 percent more than the previous year.

It's worth noting that Tianshan Airport has seen rapid growth in international and regional flights, up 79.88 percent from 2024 levels. This growth reflects the airport's continued growth as an international aviation hub.

Last year, the airport's passenger traffic from foreign countries and regions reached 989,000 person-times, an increase of 62.31 percent year-on-year.

Furthermore, for the entire year 2025, the airport's international cargo and mail volume jumped by 204.8 percent to 122,700 tons. This success was achieved thanks to the opening of new cargo air routes to Europe and Central Asia last year, including Urumqi-Paris/Madrid and Urumqi-Urgench/Uzbekistan.

As a reminder, the airport operates 311 air routes, including 236 domestic passenger and 6 domestic cargo routes, as well as 32 international passenger and 37 international cargo routes, covering five Central Asian countries. -0-
