MEXICO CITY, January 2 (Xinhua) — A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the southern Mexican state of Guerrero at 7:58 a.m. local time (1:58 p.m. GMT) on Friday, Mexico's National Seismological Service reported.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage yet.

According to the service, the epicenter of the tremors was approximately 15 kilometers southwest of the town of San Marcos. The hypocenter was located at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers.

An earthquake warning system was activated in Mexico City, where seismic activity was felt. –0–
