Sydney, January 2 (Xinhua) — A Chinese citizen has died at sea in Sydney, Australia. The Chinese Consulate General in the city announced this on Friday.

The diplomats said they were in close contact with stakeholders to ensure proactive follow-up and assistance.

According to Australian media, emergency services received reports early Thursday morning that a 25-year-old woman had been swept out to sea by a massive wave near Maroubra Beach in eastern Sydney. A rescue team from several agencies later found the woman, but she could not be resuscitated.
