Beijing, December 31 (Xinhua) — China hopes Bangladesh will successfully hold its general elections and advance its political agenda in an orderly manner, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday.

The Chinese diplomat made the statement at a regular briefing for journalists, answering a question about the general elections scheduled for February 12, 2026, which the country is currently actively preparing for.

Stressing that the elections are Bangladesh's internal affairs, Lin Jian noted that China consistently adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

“We are confident that the interim government and the people of Bangladesh are capable of properly managing their affairs and following a development path suited to their national conditions,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman added. –0–
