Almaty, December 30 (Xinhua) — The Taiwan issue is central to China's core interests and an insurmountable red line. Acting Chinese Consul General in Almaty, Lu Yi, stated this in an opinion piece commenting on the recent approval of the largest-ever US arms sale to the Chinese region of Taiwan.
The Chinese diplomat pointed out that this move by the American side seriously violates the one-China principle and the three Sino-American joint communiqués, undermining China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a decision to take retaliatory measures against companies and senior officials associated with the US military-industrial complex. According to Lü Yi, these measures are legal, justified, and necessary.
By colluding with forces advocating for "Taiwan independence," the US is provoking tensions and increasing the risk of confrontation, the article notes. Taiwan's Prime Minister Lai Qingde has intensified his policy of "relying on external forces to achieve independence" and "gaining independence by force," which will ultimately inevitably lead to self-destructive consequences.
As Lü Yi recalled, this year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's liberation from Japanese occupation and the island's return to the motherland. The National People's Congress designated October 25 as Taiwan Liberation Memorial Day, thereby sending a clear signal to the world: resolving the Taiwan issue is an entirely internal matter for the Chinese people, one that brooks no outside interference. No country or force should underestimate the firm resolve, unwavering will, and powerful capabilities of the Chinese government and people in upholding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, the diplomat emphasized.
According to him, the one-China principle is the general consensus of the international community and the political basis for the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kazakhstan. As eternal comprehensive strategic partners, China and Kazakhstan have consistently provided firm support to each other on issues affecting the fundamental interests of both sides. Ahead of the joint celebration of the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, China expresses its readiness to work with Kazakhstan to uphold international fairness and justice, resolutely counter forces undermining regional peace and stability, and make an even more significant contribution to the building of a community with a shared future between China and Kazakhstan.
