BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) — China offers deep condolences over the death of former Bangladesh Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Khaleda Zia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

Lin Jian also said that China expresses its sincere condolences to the interim government of Bangladesh and the family members of the deceased.

Khaleda Zia died on Tuesday at the age of 80, according to media reports.

Lin Jian said that Hussein Zia was a long-time friend of the Chinese people and had long been committed to China-Bangladesh friendship. He noted that Hussein Zia actively promoted relations between the two countries during her tenure as Prime Minister of Bangladesh, leading to the establishment of a comprehensive cooperative partnership based on long-term friendship, equality, and mutual benefit.
