Ottawa, December 27 (Xinhua) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stopped in Halifax, Canada, on Saturday to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney before flying to Florida for talks with US President Donald Trump on the Ukrainian peace process.

During the meeting, Michael Carney and Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the latest developments in the ongoing negotiations to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Canadian prime minister reaffirmed his country's "full support" for Ukraine, according to a statement on the prime minister's official website.

M. Carney highly praised “V. Zelenskyy’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace for the Ukrainian people, as well as the courage of Ukrainians.”

V. Zelenskyy's visit to Canada took place after a telephone conversation with M. Carney on Friday.

According to local media, V. Zelensky intends to discuss a 20-point peace plan with D. Trump, likely on Sunday at the American president's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

"In the next few days, much can be done both bilaterally between Ukraine and the United States, as well as with our partners in the 'coalition of the willing,'" CBC News quotes Zelensky as saying.

“It is important that we work together and constructively to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to protect lives, strengthen our position on the front lines, and enhance the effectiveness of the negotiation process,” he emphasized.
