Aden, Yemen, December 26 (Xinhua) — Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes on Friday against military targets affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the oil-rich Hadramaut province in southeastern Yemen, a local security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Xinhua.
According to him, "several airstrikes targeted positions of the Elite Hadrami Forces, affiliated with the STC." The bombing did not result in casualties or damage to military equipment, the source noted.
A day earlier, Saudi Arabia had appealed to the Transitional Council to withdraw its troops from Hadramaut, he said, calling the airstrikes an unprecedented event. According to the source, the attacks should serve as a stern warning to the STC and force it to abandon its facilities in Hadramaut under threat of further military action.
