Belgrade, December 26 (Xinhua) — Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the construction site of the new bridge over the Sava River on Thursday, calling the project a symbol of the country's development and emphasizing the crucial role of the partnership with China in developing Belgrade's infrastructure.
The President was accompanied by Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming. A. Vučić emphasized the importance of cooperation with PowerChina, the project's main contractor.
“I thank the Chinese and Serbian workers for their hard work,” said A. Vučić, noting that this partnership played a key role in maintaining the accelerated pace of construction seen throughout Belgrade.
The project details state that the main sections of the steel superstructure were manufactured in China and delivered to Belgrade on river barges using Chinese engineering expertise.
The new bridge across the Sava River will be 420 meters long, supported by six piers, and 38 meters wide. In designated pedestrian areas, the bridge will be 42 meters wide. Two-way tram tracks will run along the center, with two lanes of traffic in each direction on either side.
The partnership aims to complete the bridge by March 2027, a deadline President A. Vučić confirmed during his visit on Thursday.
