BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) — The Wuliji Port of China and Mongolia, in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, passed the state acceptance test on Thursday, indicating that the border crossing meets the necessary conditions for official operation, the Neimenggu Ribao daily reported Friday.
The Uliji checkpoint, bordering the South Gobi aimag of Mongolia, is located in the Uliji soum of the Arashan left khoshun of the Arashan aimag of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Republic.
In recent years, a total of 21 key projects have been implemented to construct this border crossing, with a total investment of 2.66 billion yuan (approximately 378 million US dollars). Key facilities, such as a joint inspection building, freight and passenger corridors, an import/export inspection point, and other structures have been constructed, while supporting infrastructure, such as roads, communications facilities, and water and electricity networks, has been fully operational, laying the foundation for the official opening and operation of this crossing.
Planning and construction of the Wuliji Portal began in 2016 with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. In October 2021, the relevant government agency approved its temporary opening to the outside world. Over four years of trial operation, it handled over 9,300 tons of cargo valued at 13.67 million yuan, and the number of border crossings in both directions reached 12,000.
The official opening of the Wuliji Port will promote the further development of China-Mongolia energy and trade and economic exchanges, deepen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as culture, tourism and healthcare, and play a positive role in promoting the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's deep integration into the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and building a bridgehead for China's opening up to the north.
At the same time, the Wuliji checkpoint, together with the Ganqimaodu and Ceke border crossings, will form a cluster of border checkpoints in western Inner Mongolia, which will further improve the location of checkpoints that facilitate China's opening to the north. -0-
