New Delhi, December 25 (Xinhua) — At least nine people were killed and many injured early Thursday morning when a private passenger bus caught fire after colliding with a large truck in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, local police said.

The accident occurred around 2:00 a.m. local time on the highway in Gorlathu village, about 203 km northwest of Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka state.

According to police, a truck traveling in the opposite direction suddenly crossed the median and collided head-on with a bus.
