KUNMING, December 25 (Xinhua) — A sudden gas outburst occurred at a coal mine in Zhenxiong County, southwest China's Yunnan Province, around 6:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday evening, local authorities reported Thursday.

Firefighters and other emergency services personnel have already rescued some of the trapped people. As of 11:50 PM Wednesday, a number of people remained trapped.

Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing, and the cause of the accident is being investigated. –0–
