BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) — China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Wednesday the discovery of a new major oil field in the shallow Neogene formations of the Bohai Sea.

CNOOC noted that the new field, named Qinhuangdao 29-6, is the seventh oil field with proven reserves of over 100 million tons discovered since 2019 in the Bohai Oil Fields, China's largest offshore crude oil production base.

Moreover, its discovery further contributes to strengthening China's offshore oil and gas reserve base and is of great significance to ensuring the country's energy security, CNOOC said.

The Qinhuangdao 29-6 oil field, located in the central Bohai Sea, is another large-scale lithological field discovered in the region in recent years following the discovery of the Qinhuangdao 27-3 oil field there.

The results of test production showed that the daily production rate of one well at Qinhuangdao 29-6 is approximately 370 tons of crude oil, which indicates promising potential for energy exploration in this water area, the corporation added. -0-
