Tbilisi, December 23 (Xinhua) — The Georgian government has allocated over 340 million lari (approximately 126.17 million U.S. dollars) for sports development in 2025, including support for elite and mass sports, the modernization of sports infrastructure, and the social protection of athletes. This was announced by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday.
Speaking at the "Best Athlete of 2025" award ceremony, Igor Kobakhidze noted that the country places particular emphasis on the development of parasports. He stated that Georgian para-athletes annually demonstrate a high level of training, and their performance at the European Paralympic Youth Games, the national team's debut, was marked by significant success.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Georgia places great importance on hosting international sporting competitions. This year, the country hosted a number of high-level tournaments, including the Bakuriani 2025 European Winter Youth Olympic Festival, as well as world championships in fencing, mixed martial arts, and dancesport.
