Almaty, December 17 (Xinhua) — Air Astana's Airbus A321neo, which was operating passenger flight KC-851 from Almaty to Astana on Wednesday, returned to its departure airport after a distress signal, the Civil Aviation Committee (CAC) of the Kazakh Ministry of Transport reported.

The plane landed at Almaty Airport at 7:40 AM local time. According to preliminary information, there are no injuries among the passengers or crew. As previously reported, the crew issued a May-Day distress signal due to smoke in the cabin.

The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (KGA) reported that more detailed circumstances of the incident are being established by employees of the Department for the Investigation of Accidents and Incidents in Transport. –0–
