A new resident has arrived at the Moscow Zoo: a donkey named Zhorik. His story is unique: for a long time, the animal was stationed with the personnel of a military unit in a special military operation (SVO) zone. Zhorik provided assistance with housekeeping and transported ammunition.
After the unit's relocation, the donkey's fate was resolved with public support. The Moscow Zoo quickly organized the animal's transportation. In early autumn, Zhorik underwent adaptation at the zoo's branch in Veliky Ustyug, and at the end of November, he was brought to the capital.
The animal is currently in scheduled quarantine, undergoing all necessary veterinary examinations and procedures. The donkey is gradually acclimating to its new surroundings and staff. Its diet consists of hay, carrots, beets, and specialized vitamin and mineral supplements.
"Right now, Zhorik needs peace and quiet and gradual adaptation. As soon as our specialists decide he's ready, he'll be moved to the permanent exhibit at the children's zoo. We plan to place him in the petting area, next to the Cameroon goats, where visitors will be able to observe this sociable and friendly animal," commented Svetlana Akulova, General Director of the Moscow Zoo.
After quarantine measures, zoo visitors will be able to learn Zhorik's story and meet his new inhabitant.
