On December 15, the Vakhtangov Theatre hosted the 18th annual audience awards ceremony, "Theatre Star." The project won the special award for "Best Theatre Festival" Department of Culture of the City of Moscow "Theater Boulevard".
"'Theater Boulevard' has become a truly popular festival, bringing together over 1.5 million Muscovites and visitors this year, over three thousand artists, and dozens of Russian and international theaters. This award is also a credit to our audiences, thanks to whom the festival thrives and thrives. We have already begun preparations for 'Theater Boulevard' in 2026 and will make every effort not only to maintain but also to improve on the current level," noted the Moscow Government Minister and Head of the Moscow Department of Culture.
The "Theater Star" competition was established in 2008 by Teatral magazine and is awarded annually. It is the first international public audience award, recognizing creative achievements in theatrical arts from the public's perspective. The competition aims to promote and support the best examples of Russian theater, as well as talented young actors, directors, playwrights, artists, and other professionals in this field. This year, winners were recognized in separate social and special categories, including "Best Theater Festival."
The award's main prize is an original work of art, specially commissioned by the organizers. It is a porcelain figurine of a mime in a black suit holding a gold star.
The International Open Theatre Boulevard Festival took place in Moscow from June 1 to August 31, 2025. It became the longest-running theatre festival in the world, transforming the city into a grand stage for 92 days. The festival was organized by the Moscow Department of Culture as part of the "Summer in Moscow" project.
