UN, December 13 (Xinhua) — Some 1,092 patients died in the Gaza Strip without medical evacuation between July 2024 and November 28, 2025, Richard Pieperkorn, the World Health Organization's representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday, citing Gaza health authorities.

He said these figures are likely underestimated and do not fully reflect the real situation, as they are based solely on registered deaths.

“WHO has called on more countries to accept patients from Gaza and to resume medical evacuations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” he said.

As R. Piperkorn noted, 18 of 36 hospitals and 43% of primary healthcare centers in Gaza are partially operational. However, there is a severe shortage of essential medications and medical supplies, including those for the treatment of heart disease.

He stressed that despite the increase in approved supplies to Gaza, the process of importing medicines and medical equipment remains “unreasonably slow and difficult.” –0–
