Pyongyang, December 11 (Xinhua) — Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), visited the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang on Wednesday to offer condolences over the death of Russian Ambassador to the DPRK Alexander Matsegora, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Thursday.

Kim Jong-un laid a bouquet of flowers and observed a minute of silence in memory of A. Matsegora, KCNA reported, adding that he met with members of the grieving family and the leadership of the Russian embassy and expressed his deep condolences.

According to Kim Jong-un, A. Matsegora was an outstanding diplomat who made a significant contribution to the history of friendly relations between the DPRK and Russia, as well as a close friend and loyal comrade who deeply touched the hearts of the DPRK people, the KCNA report said.

Stating that this is a great loss not only for the Russian government and people, but also for the government and people of the DPRK “at a time when an important historical stage has begun in the development of relations between the two countries,” Kim Jong-un emphasized that relations between the DPRK and Russia will continue to develop.

According to KCNA, Secretaries of the WPK Central Committee Pak Jong Chon and Cho Chun Ryong, North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Son Hui, North Korean Minister of National Defense No Gwang Chol, and other officials visited the Russian embassy on Wednesday to offer condolences over the death of Andrei Matsegora. North Korean Prime Minister Pak Thae Song also expressed deep condolences over the death of Andrei Matsegora.
