HAIKOU, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) — The International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Space Technology was held in Boao Township, south China's Hainan Island Province, from Dec. 9 to 11. Around 50 experts and astronauts from China, the United States, Russia, Germany, and other countries attended the conference.
Conference participants engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on issues such as the peaceful uses of space technologies, the promotion of healthcare through their use, and the opportunities and challenges facing global cooperation in space exploration.
According to a number of experts who participated in the above-mentioned event, international cooperation is the main driving force for promoting sustainable development of the space industry.
Driss El Hadani, Deputy Director-General of the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs, stated that space is the "largest infrastructure" shared by humanity and an important platform for international cooperation. Humanity currently faces a number of space challenges, such as limited orbital resources and the growing threat of space debris. To address these pressing issues, humanity must work together.
“I am glad to see that some organizations and institutions are already conducting relevant research on these issues,” he noted.
Luo Ge, Chairman of the China Association for Remote Sensing Applications, pointed out that international exchanges and cooperation are one of the driving forces promoting the development of the space industry and healthcare.
He said that if countries around the world can continuously strengthen cooperation in space and work hand in hand, this will not only contribute to the rapid development of China's space industry, but also allow all participating countries to share in the benefits of this cooperation.
Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli noted that humanity needs to strive for the joint development of the space industry through cooperation and promote progress through healthy competition.
