Tashkent, December 10 (Xinhua) — Uzbekistan plans to reduce the poverty rate to 4.5 percent next year, the presidential press service announced on Tuesday.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was reportedly briefed on ongoing measures to transform mahallas (Uzbek neighborhoods) into areas free of unemployment and poverty and to ensure employment.

"It was noted that by the end of this year, the poverty rate is expected to decrease from 8.9 percent at the beginning of the year to 6 percent. The goal for next year is to reduce this figure to 4.5 percent," the statement said.

It is noted that, to achieve these goals, tasks have been defined for the comprehensive organization of work in mahallas: expanding the coverage of services aimed at sustainable employment, creating sources of income, training the population in professions, and involving them in entrepreneurial activity.

Let us recall that in 2026, the growth of real GDP in Uzbekistan is projected at 5.5-6.5 percent. –0–
