BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — As of December 9, the volume of freight handled through the Tongjiang railway checkpoint in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has exceeded 6 million tons since the beginning of this year, local media reported.

Thus, the target of 6 million tons of cargo turnover through the Tongjiang Port for the entire year 2025 was achieved ahead of schedule, while a new record was set for the annual volume of cargo transportation through this port for the entire period of its operation.

The Tongjiang Railway Port, one of the important land border crossings aimed at expanding China's opening-up to Russia, has played a key role in facilitating trade exchanges between China and Russia since its commissioning in November 2022.

According to statistics, the total volume of coal transported through the Tongjiang Port has exceeded 10 million tons to date, which has provided significant support for China's energy supply and optimized the country's energy import channels.

Furthermore, the volumes of transported commodities such as timber, ore, and agricultural products are also steadily increasing. Diversifying the range of goods transported and expanding the scope of trade influence effectively promotes economic complementarity and coordinated industrial development in the regions of China and Russia located along these routes.

As a reminder, after the commissioning of the Tongjiang checkpoint, the transportation distance along the routes from this checkpoint to markets in the interior regions of Europe turned out to be 809 km shorter than from the Suifenhe railway checkpoint, saving approximately 10 hours, which effectively reduced the traffic load at the Manzhouli and Suifenhe checkpoints.

Currently, China-Europe freight train services running through Tongjiang Railway Port cover 14 European countries and connect more than 60 cities in China. -0-
