BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — China calls on Pakistan and Afghanistan to continue to resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation, promote de-escalation of the situation, and work together to maintain regional peace and stability, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday.

He made the statement at a regular departmental press conference when he was asked to comment on the report that on December 5, a firefight occurred between the armed forces of Afghanistan and Pakistan, which resulted in civilian casualties.

Pakistan and Afghanistan have long been friendly neighbors of China, and they are also neighbors that cannot distance themselves from each other, Guo Jiakun said.

China is ready to cooperate with the international community to continue to play a constructive role in improving and developing relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Chinese diplomat concluded. -0-
